Day by Day Program for 13 Days Kenya and Tanzania Safari
Day 1: Nairobi – Maasai Mara
Your safari begins with a pickup from your accommodation or the airport in Nairobi. After a briefing, leave at 8:00 a.m. and travel through the magnificent Great Rift Valley, passing Narok on your way to the famed Maasai Mara National Reserve.
Arrive in time for lunch, followed by an afternoon wildlife drive. This first safari trip provides an opportunity to see animals such as lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, and more.
Day 2: Full Day in Maasai Mara.
After breakfast, spend the day on wildlife drives in the Maasai Mara. Explore several parts of the reserve in search of the Big Five and other animals.
Both morning and afternoon game drives provide good opportunity to observe predator action and, depending on the season, the Great Wildebeest Migration.
Day 3: Maasai Mara – Serengeti National Park
After an early morning, leave Maasai Mara with a packed lunch and head to the Isebania border.
After completing immigration processes, enter Tanzania, change cars, and proceed to Serengeti National Park. As you approach the park, take a game drive.
Day 4: Full day at Serengeti National Park.
Spend the day exploring the immense grasslands of the Serengeti on morning and afternoon wildlife drives.
Optional activities include hot air balloon safaris.
Day 5: Serengeti – Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
After breakfast, depart Serengeti with packed lunches and travel to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
En route, you may explore Olduvai Gorge, a significant archeological site regarded as the “Cradle of Mankind.” Continue to the crater rim, taking in the spectacular vistas along the route.
Day 6: Ngorongoro Crater Safari
After breakfast, head into the Ngorongoro Crater for a half-day wildlife drive.
The crater has a large concentration of fauna, including:• Elephants, zebras, and wildebeests.• Lions, hyenas, and jackals.• \tRare black rhinos (if lucky).
Take a picnic lunch at a lovely location before resuming your game drive. Later, travel to Karatu.
Day 7: Tarangire National Park – Departure
After breakfast, go to Tarangire National Park for a last game drive.
Tarangire is known for its vast elephant populations, baobab trees, and varied animals. After your safari, head to the airport or your next destination.

Most safari airlines in Tanzania operate small aircraft with limited luggage space, so passengers must follow strict baggage rules.

What Kind of a Vehicle is Used During the Safari?
We use 4×4 Toyota Land Cruisers prepared for tough routes. These vehicles have pop-up roof hatches for 360-degree game viewing, a cooler box to keep drinks cold, VHF radios for communication, and electrical outlets to charge electronic gadgets.
To preserve the unspoiled safari experience, Wi-Fi is not provided in the vehicles unless required, enabling complete absorption in your surroundings. Every camp and lodge has Wi-Fi. Our cars are inspected by mechanics after each safari to guarantee they are in excellent condition.
About the Mara River Crossing (July to October)
The big herd moves north at this time, heading toward Kenya's Maasai Mara National Park. There is no set schedule for the animals; we have to keep an eye on them every day as they slowly but surely make their way to their next big test: the Mara River.
Here, the water is the last lethal barrier. To get to the safer side of the river, the herds have to cross fast-moving water and crocodiles that are waiting for them. People come from all over the world to see it, hoping to catch a moment of raw, life-threatening drama on video or in photos.
Even outside of the famous river crossing at Kogatende, the surroundings around it are incredibly beautiful. They are a timeless stage for one of nature's greatest dramas of life, risk, and regeneration.

When is the best time to see the river crossing ?
The prime viewing period for the Mara River crossing in the Northern Serengeti (Tanzania) and Masai Mara (Kenya) is from July through October. The exact timing can vary slightly each year based on rainfall patterns, but late July to September typically offers the most reliable action.
Can you guarantee we will see a crossing?
No ethical operator can guarantee a crossing, as it is a natural event driven entirely by animal instinct. However, by visiting during the peak season and spending multiple days in the area with an experienced guide (like our Meijo Safaris experts), you significantly increase your chances. Patience is key, and the anticipation is part of the adventure.
What happens during a typical day of "crossing viewing"?
Days are spent on game drives along the riverbanks. Your guide will communicate with other drivers and read animal behavior to position you at promising locations. You may wait for several hours—a fantastic opportunity for birdwatching and landscape photography—until the herd’s momentum builds and they eventually plunge into the river.
Can i get close to the River Crossing ?
Yes. You will always observe from inside your safari vehicle at a safe distance designated by your guide and park rules. Our vehicles are rugged and safe, and our guides are trained to read animal behavior and ensure a secure viewing experience.
