Things to know before preparing your Tanzania Safari
Tanzania FAQ's
Where is Tanzania Located?
Located in East Africa, Tanzania is bordered by the Indian Ocean on its Eastern Side, blessing us with the beauty of Zanzibar.
North of Tanzania you will find Kenya and Uganda, whilst Rwanda, The Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Burundi can be found to the west. South of Tanzania is Zambia, Malawi, and Mozambique.
What is the climate and weather like in Tanzania?
Tanzania’s climate is influenced by its size, resulting in varying seasons. The primary rainy season, known as the ‘long rains,’ lasts from March to May, with heavy tropical downpours and strong humidity. The long dry season, from June to October, is infrequent and has clear skies and sunny weather. The’short rains,’ between November and December, are lighter and less consistent. If rain occurs during the brief rains, it usually dries up for a few months in January and February before raining again in March. Overall, Tanzania offers an excellent climate for visitors.
Best Time To Visit?
Tanzania offers safaris all year round. Still, the greatest months are late June through October. This is the time of year when the weather is consistently dry and visibility is excellent.
This makes it easier for visitors to see wildlife. If you’re visiting for the first time, the dry season is excellent.
How is travelling, transportation and getting around in Tanzania
You may drive or fly between Tanzanian parks and reserves. Most wilderness roads are inadequate and unmarked, thus self-driving is discouraged. Operators supply a driver who also acts as an informal guide, or you may fly to your location and utilize the lodgings’ vehicle and driver. In other parts of Tanzania, villages and towns are connected by buses and dala-dalas (minibuses), while cities have public transit such taxis, bicycles, and tuk-tuks. Air Tanzania flies daily to all major East African cities and beyond via Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro, and Zanzibar. All national parks and several of the greatest luxury hotels have airstrips, and Coastal Air links them to mainland airports including Zanzibar, Pemba, and Mafia. ZanAir often connects Zanzibar, Pemba, and the mainland. On the left, you drive.
How safe is the food and water in Tanzania?
Most tourist camps, lodges, and hotels provide Western-style food, which is usually good. If you are a vegetarian or have any particular dietary demands, let your tour operator know in advance since game lodges serve a set meal with restricted options. First-time visitors to Africa should know that most game lodges in and around national parks are isolated and that driving is not allowed after dark, leaving no other option than to dine at your lodge. As tap water in Tanzania is generally dangerous, most visitors consume mineral water. Outside the main town, filtered and bottled water is scarce, so stock up. Most campers, resorts, and hotels provide bottled water.
Do I need electricity plug adapter?
Most Tanzanian electrical sockets accept normal UK plugs. Travelers from European countries should have a travel adapter.
Tanzanian electrical sockets typically deliver 230 volts AC at a frequency of 50 Hz. If you’re plugging in an appliance designed for 230 volt electrical input or one that can handle several voltages, an adapter is all you’ll need. If your appliance isn’t 230-volt compatible, you’ll need a voltage converter.
