A one-day excursion to the Materuni Waterfalls and a coffee tour to the charming village of Materuni, which is renowned for its delicious, creamy coffee and is home to our Chagga friends, are both located in the patchwork foothills of the majestic Kilimanjaro.

Learn the secrets of the ideal cup of coffee from the Chagga people of the Kilimanjaro region and learn how to prepare a decent cup of coffee on this aromatic and enjoyable day out. The trek to the waterfalls traverses lush, picturesque greenery that is teeming with chameleons and birds. This excursion to the remote region of Tanzania is advised either the day prior to your safari to alleviate jetlag or following your trek from Kilimanjaro to facilitate relaxation. The cascades, which are approximately 70 meters in height, provide a cool and refreshing environment, making them one of the highest waterfalls in Tanzania. Expect a celebratory atmosphere during the coffee excursions, as you prepare your coffee from the bean to a cup.

While singing and dancing to traditional melodies, the beans are ground, roasted, and boiled. Upon completion of the process, you will be able to sample the coffee that you have just prepared, which will be served with a traditional picnic from the Chagga tribe.

Afterward, you will embark on a brief yet challenging hike to Materuni Falls, where you will have the opportunity to witness the falls as they cascade into a tranquil pool that is suitable for swimming. There is nothing more relaxing than basking in the refreshing waters after a sweaty (well, glowing!) trek, and you will want to plunge right in.
