After an early breakfast (07.00hrs), you will depart your Lodge for the Londorosi Gate to obtain climbing permits at 11.00hrs and enjoy lunch. Lunch is followed by a short drive to the walk’s beginning. Today’s trek is 7 km/4 miles and should take 3.5–4 hours.
The route begins at 2,100 meters and ends at 2,650 meters at Mti Mkubwa Camp. The Lemosho Route offers the best Kilimanjaro views from the west. At the start of your trek, you may see colobus or blue monkeys, but buffalo or elephant are unusual today. Your steady ascent through a beautiful woodland and colorful flowers is amazing. Once at camp, your mountain support staff will handle the basics and cook meals.
Elevation: 1830m/6000ft to 2650m/8700ft
Distance: 6km/4mi
Hiking Time: 2-3 hours
Habitat: Montane Forest
Meals: Lunch and Dinner
Day 2: Big Tree Camp (2650m) to Shira 1 Camp (3500m)
You’ll get used to the early breakfast at 07.00hrs, and your leaving time today is 08.00hrs. Your walking distance is just slightly more than yesterday, but you will ascend from 2,650 metres to Shira 1 Camp at 3,500 metres, which will take 4.5 to 5 hours. You will immediately climb a ridge as you continue east. The woods of your first day thin out today, and you’ll move across moorland. You can see the Shira Plateau and Kibo for the first time from here.
To avoid illness, stay focused on walking pole pole slowly. Picnic lunch will be approximately 13.00hrs as you head east. Walk steeply after lunch, then flatten and descend slightly to the camp with the snow-topped Kibo ahead. After arriving at 16.00hrs, there will be some rest before dinner at 18.30hrs.
Elevation: 2650m/8700ft to 3500m/11,500ft
Distance: 8km/5mi
Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
Habitat: Moorland
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Day 3: Shira 1 Camp (3500m) to Shira 2 Camp (3850m)
Today you may have less climbing than yesterday, so you celebrate (!) with a leisurely breakfast at 08.00 and a departure approximately an hour later. Ascending Cathedral Peak, 3,850 meters, one of the highest points of the extinct Shira volcano, is possible today, according to your guide.
In addition to the thrilling hike, Cathedral Peak offers stunning valley vistas on a clear day. The valley below like a lost world is one of our favorite views from our decade of Kilimanjaro expeditions. A simple hike with no technical difficulties. The peak is sometimes clouded, but a stella offers a stunning photo.
If you want to bypass this ascent or have bad weather, go straight to Shira 2. Shira 2 and Cathedral Peak are similar elevations, therefore this choice doesn’t affect acclimatization. However, we highly recommend the Cathedral Peak hike.
The typical walking distance today is 7 km/4 miles. Expect 3.5 to 4 hours of walking due to the constant rise. This route should get you to Shira 2 Camp at 3,850 meters by 13.00hrs for a catered lunch. Dinner tonight is 18.00.
Elevation: 3500m/11,500ft to 3850m/12,600ft
Distance: 8km/5mi
Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
Habitat: Moorland
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Day 4 : Shira 2 Camp (3850m) to Barranco Camp (4000m)

You will traverse 10 km/6 miles, but you must climb to Lava Tower, the route’s most important point, before finishing 50 meters higher. This route has many ascents and descents and ends in a 4,600-metre camp. The journey may be arduous and uncomfortable, but you must spend at least 1–2 hours here to adjust to the altitude, so you will appreciate your cooked meal here.
