July Map of the Great Migration –
As the herds migrate further through the Northern Serengeti and into the Mara River, July is one of the most thrilling months of the great migration. You will see thousands of wildebeest at this time of year fighting their way across the rivers and attempting to escape the crocodiles. In the Northern Serengeti or over the river in the western part of the Maasai Mara.
August/September Map of the Great Migration –
The migrant herds settle, for a time, in the Maasai Mara in Kenya after the thrill of the river crossings. The Mara is an incredible region of rolling savannah hills with dark green riverine woodland areas that are hacked into, making this the ideal environment for a whole host of wildlife. Throughout August and September, the fertile grasslands sustain the herds.
October Map of the Great Exodus –
The wildebeest starting their journey south expecting the rain as the rain clouds begin to build. Slowly, across the Masai Mara, they make their way east and back down into the Serengeti National Park. The perfect base will be in the northeastern Serengeti during October, and Sayari is once again a fantastic camp at this time.
During the months of September and October, this area comes into its own and is the perfect location for a safari in Tanzania as the migration of the wildebeest passes southward across Lobo and down to the Serengeti plains.
December Map of the Great Migration
The migration settles on the short grass plains in the Southern Serengeti as December approaches. The movement continues to remain around the region of Seronera and Ndutu at this time of year as Seronera provides the herds with a steady supply of water. You have the luxury of seeing thousands of wildebeest and zebra gathered on the southern plains during December as the migration takes off. When the big cats follow the feast, this is a great time to see a great range of sports. As in the months of January and February, Dunia, Olakira, Lake Masek and Ndutu Lodge will bring you in the right position to see the huge herds. The Ndutu region consists of limitless grass plains, which appear to go as far as the eye can see, and as the grass is green and the wildlife is plentiful, the plains are at their best throughout December.

Ready For The Great Wildebeest Migration Safari in Tanzania?
Now, while you might have a clearer understanding of the movements of migration, game focus is not always what you would expect. You must keep in mind that the immense herds are spread out over the ecosystem of the Serengeti-Masai Mara, and may not always be close to each other. That said, even though the herds are slightly spaced out, it is always an amazing experience to be amongst them.
